Which format does the Unternehmensregister expect?
XML is the relevant format for submission to the Unternehmensregister. However, many accounting documents are available as PDF, Word or Excel.
XML as the relevant submission format
The Unternehmensregister expects XML as the submission format for accounting documents. Only validated XML is submittable.
PDF, Word or Excel contain the content but are not machine-readable, submittable XML.
Source format and submission format are not the same
PDF, Word and Excel are common source formats in which the balance sheet, P&L, notes or management report are available. They are source documents, not the submission format.
A PDF is therefore not submittable: it must first be converted into the required XML. Confusing source and submission format is a common source of error in the disclosure process.
Why conversion-related costs arise
If documents are not delivered in XML format but as PDF, Word or Excel, the register authority may charge a conversion fee.
An XML-first workflow reduces this effort because the submission is made directly in the required format.
How an XML-first workflow helps
Uregistry converts existing accounting documents from PDF, Excel or Word into validated XML, reducing manual XML work and unnecessary conversion effort.
Common friction points are unclear structures, inconsistent labelling or missing mandatory fields. Every conversion step is visible in the editor; potential blockers are identifiable and correctable.
PDF, Excel or Word to XML: preparing documents
Existing documents are often available as PDF, Excel or Word – not as submittable XML. Uregistry takes care of structuring and validation and produces a submission-ready XML.
The workflow: upload PDF, Excel or Word, structuring and XML generation, review and correction, submission or download.
